New Delhi, June15: In the wake of massive protests against Rahul Gandhi’s grilling by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot was held outside the Congress headquarters today.
Pilot was stopped and hauled away in a police bus while attempting to reach the party headquarters, according to reports. Sachin Pilot told that he is being held at the Narela police station and that no explanation has been given for his imprisonment.
“This is a bad sign for democracy,” he said in a video statement from inside the police bus.
Pilot’s followers can be seen disputing with the authorities in a video sent on Twitter by Rajasthan Congress MLA Mukesh Bhakar, but he eventually accepts to board the police bus amid supporting sloganeering by Congress workers.
Officials added that around 800 prominent Congress leaders and employees had been held since Monday for protesting the Enforcement Directorate questioning of Rahul Gandhi in violation of prohibitory orders and despite being denied permission.
Today, several Congress workers were detained outside the party’s headquarters and the ED office, where they organised rallies and yelled slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi. Some members of the Youth Congress and Mahila Congress were pulled and carried away on buses, according to videos.
