New Delhi, April 24: Ola Electric is recalling 1,441 units of its electric two-wheelers due to fire occurrences. The investigation into the fire that occurred on March 26 in Pune is still ongoing, according to the firm, although preliminary findings show that it was an isolated incident.
“As a pre-emptive measure we will be conducting a detailed diagnostic and health check of the scooters in that specific batch and therefore are issuing a voluntary recall of 1,441 vehicles,” it said.
“These scooters will be inspected by our service engineers and will go through a thorough diagnostics across all battery systems, thermal systems as well as the safety systems,” Ola Electric further said.
Ola Electric claims that their battery systems comply with and are tested for AIS 156, the most recent proposed standard for India, as well as the European standard ECE 136.
Notably, several incidences of electric two-wheelers catching fire have recently occurred around the country, prompting manufacturers to recall their vehicles. Over 3,000 units were recalled by Okinawa Autotech, while around 2,000 units were recalled by PureEV. The government formed a panel to investigate the fires and threatened corporations with sanctions if they were found to be negligent.
