Dehradun, Oct.30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit out at the Congress on Saturday, saying that the grand old party is identified with corruption and frauds, and that its leaders constantly refuse to keep pledges.
Shah while addressing at the launch of the ‘Ghasiyari Kalyan Yojana,’ challenged Uttarakhand’s former Chief Minister Harish Rawat to an open debate on the promises made and kept by the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that his party had kept roughly 85% of its manifesto commitments.
“The word “congress” conjures up images of bribery and deception. The party is unconcerned with any state’s progress. Congress has a habit of ignoring its promises. The Congress is solely interested in appeasement and cannot help Uttarakhand in any way,” he said.

He stated,”During COVID-19, the state was hit by floods, and Congress leaders were unable to be found. When elections approach, however, they emerge and begin holding news conferences.”
“I challenge Harish Rawat Ji to an open debate on the promises made and fulfilled by Congress and BJP in their respective election manifestos. The BJP has fulfilled around 85 per cent of promises made in its manifesto,” he added.
He also informed that PM Modi will visit the Kedarnath Dham on November 5, when he will inaugurate an Adi Shankaracharya idol.
The election for the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly is set for early 2022.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP won 57 seats, the Congress won 11, and the remaining seats were won by others.
