Union Home Minister Amit Shah will today meet the families of those killed in the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri. In the wake of targeted attacks on Hindu families in the area, Shah will also assess the security situation.

Two terrorist assaults that took place in Rajouri’s Upper Dangri hamlet on January 1 and 2 resulted in the deaths of seven civilians, including two children, and several injuries.

Following the attacks, more than 2,000 extra paramilitary units have been dispatched to Rajouri. Despite conducting a thorough search for the attackers, the authorities have not yet located them.

In the past three months, Shah has travelled to Jammu and Kashmir twice. The Home Minister went to Rajouri in October of last year and spoke at a crowd.

He will return to Jammu to preside over a high-level security meeting after meeting with the Dangri village residents and the families of the victims of the terror acts. The conference will be attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and the heads of various paramilitary and intelligence organisations.

The Dangri terror assaults are being looked into by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

In order to fight against potential terror attacks, the administration has reestablished village defence organisations in Rajouri and many residents are receiving new firearms.
