Chandigarh, April 23: Amritpal Singh, was arrested on Sunday in Punjab’s Moga district, the police said.
“The Punjab Police have arrested him,” a senior police official stated.
Punjab Police escorted him to Air Force Station, Bathinda, from where he will be transported to Assam’s Dibrugarh.
“He is an NSA subject and will be taken to Dibrugarh,” said the officer.
Against Amritpal Singh, who is a supporter of Khalistan, the Punjab Police has already used the severe National Security Act (NSA).
Since a police operation against Singh and his supporters began on March 18, Singh has been hiding out.
Amritpal Singh and the members of his organisation ‘Waris Punjab De’ were the target of a significant crackdown by the police on March 18.
He and his companions were charged with a number of crimes, including attempting to kill someone, attacking police officers, inciting class strife, and interfering with public workers’ lawful performance of their duties.
