Hyderabad, Feb 21: Mekapati Goutham Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh government’s information and technology and industries minister, died on Monday after suffering a heart attack.
According to sources, the 50-year-old minister was in Dubai to attract investment for the state and returned on Sunday to Hyderabad. After falling at his residence, he was rushed to Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his sincere astonishment and grief, saying he had known the minister since his early days as a young promising leader. When discussing the death of a young cabinet colleague, he was at a loss for words. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
“Deeply saddened and shocked beyond belief to learn about the sudden demise of dear friend @MekapatiGoutham Garu. My heartfelt condolences to the family & friends in this hour of grief. Gone too soon brother. Pray that you rest in peace,” tweeted Telangana minister KT Rama Rao.

Notably, Mekapati Goutham Reddy Reddy was the son of ex-MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy. In 2014, he was first elected as MLA from Atmakur and then in 2019. He became a minister in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy after YSR Congress came to power in 2019.
