Ranchi, Aug.19: A resident of Angara Chaita Bedia filed a habeas corpus petition before the Jharkhand High Court stating that his elderly father Shivali Bedia, 13-yr-old sister Pushpamani Bedia, wife Supoti Devi, and two below six-year children were missing since police lifted them on August 15.

The petition was filed after police neither entertained an online FIR by Bedia nor produced his family members before any legal forum nor explained the reason to anyone regarding the reason behind lifting them on Independence Day.

R.S.Majumdar, whose junior filed the petition, confirmed the development saying there was no way out. “Police cannot keep anyone more than 24 hours in its custody without assigning any reason but Bedia’s family members are still in police custody and are clueless. There is no official information regarding their whereabouts. In this situation a habeas corpus petition is the only remedy,” he said.

During a press conference, BJP leader Babulal Marandi had also mentioned their name yesterday saying police are attempting to use them as witnesses in the case of sexual exploitation against his political adviser Sunil Tiwary. Thus it appears that a new turn has come in the case of sexual exploitation against Tiwary at Argora police station.

Those made respondents in the case include SSP, SP (rural), and the officer-in-charge of Angara police station. None of them could be available for their comments. An official at Argora police station, however, said after the registration of FIR no new development has taken place in the case.
