Dumka, Sept 9: The police today submitted the charge sheet against the accused persons of the sensational murder case of a local schoolgirl, Ankita Singh, in the court of the first additional district and session judge here. Ankita had been set on fire by a stalker by pouring petrol on her body while being asleep.
DSP Vijay Kumar said that the charge sheet comprising nearly 200 pages was submitted to the court on Thursday claiming that the same included the forensic science reports apart from other evidence, including the statement of the 16-year-old schoolgirl she had given in the presence of a magistrate while under treatment at the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital.
“As of now, when the charge sheet has been submitted, the prosecution will pray for the speedy trial of the case through a fast track court,” Kumar said to the reporters on Friday claiming to have presented a watertight case against both the accused persons to ensure severe punishment for them.
The victim girl was set on fire in the early morning on August 23 by one Shahrukh Hussain (22) of her neighbourhood in a retaliatory move to teach her a lesson for refusing his advancements.
Having suffered 90 per cent burn injuries, the victim girl ultimately succumbed at RIMS in the state capital on August 28 after struggling with life for five days which, however, sparked large-scale outrage here against the role of the police being under the scanner for allegedly attempting to shield the accused right from the very beginning.
Not only the age of the victim girl was manipulated to be an adult by the police in the FIR lodged on August 23 with the Town police station despite her being a minor but also the name of the co-accused namely Naeem Khan alias Chhotu who later emerged out to be the mastermind, did not figure therein despite such statement by her.
The anomalies however could have been rectified only after the residents took to the streets to vent their ire against the police administration allegedly in compliance with the ‘appeasement’ policy of the state government been cornered by the opposition BJP and other quarters.
The DSP, meanwhile, did not divulge whether the charge sheet contains any evidence about the credentials of the accused persons to have been affiliated with any such organisations raging ‘love Jihaad’ by trapping girls belonging to the interfaith community of the country and subjecting them to such heinous consequences if they failed to accomplish the task of conversion by marrying them.
