Anantnag, Sep 15: The encounter in Anantnag, in Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the life of a soldier who had been reported missing since yesterday, officials stated.
“One more soldier has lost his life in the Anantnag operations. He had been reported missing since yesterday,” Security officials said.
“In joint security operations against terrorists in the Anantnag area, forces dropped grenades on suspected terrorist hide-out locations using drones. Grenade launchers are also being used by troops to target the group of terrorists hiding in the area,” they added.
In the current gunfight in the Anantnag district, an Army Colonel who was leading a Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Rashtriya Rifles was martyred. In the Kokernag area, enemy fire also claimed the lives of an Army Major and a Deputy Superintendent from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonak were the senior Army officers along with DSP Humayun Bhat who were killed.
Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, paid respects to the deceased DSP at Budgam on Thursday while also expressing sorrow over the deaths of officers in the encounter.
