Both pilots were safe, according to Gaya International Airport Director Bangajeet Saha.

The disaster occurred in fields adjacent to a village in the Bodh Gaya region, he claimed, when the pilots attempted an emergency landing.

When villagers saw the trainer plane crash, they raced to the scene and rescued the cadets.Army men arrived shortly afterward and took them away. They also recovered debris from the fallen airliner.

“The nature of the technical fault that might have caused the crash will be known only upon examination by experts,” said the airport director.
