Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced a major revision in the monthly pension provided to accredited journalists in Bihar under the Bihar Patrakaar Samman Pension Scheme. The pension has been increased from ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for all eligible journalists, with widows of deceased beneficiaries now receiving ₹10,000 instead of ₹3,000 per month.

Support for Families, Focus on Welfare

In a social media post, Nitish Kumar said the move is intended to provide better financial security to journalists and their families. “Instructions have been given to the department to revise the monthly pension to ₹15,000. In case of a journalist’s death, their spouse will now receive ₹10,000 monthly for life,” he wrote.

Pre-Election Welfare Push

This announcement is part of a broader set of welfare initiatives launched ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Earlier in July, the Bihar government approved 125 units of free electricity per household and launched two solar energy promotion schemes, offering 50% central subsidy on rooftop solar panels.
