Bengaluru, Dec.9: The only survivor of the helicopter crash in which Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and 12 others lost their lives, Group Captain Varun Singh is in critical condition and has been airlifted to Bengaluru.

Singh was transported by ambulance from a military hospital in Wellington to the Sulur Air Base, where he was evacuated to Bengaluru. He will be treated at Bengaluru’s Command Hospital.

Group Captain is currently on life support, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and “all attempts are being done to save him.”

With significant burn injuries, he was evacuated from the accident site to a military hospital in Wellington. Colonel KP Singh (retired), his father, had stated that he will be transferred to Bengaluru.

“He is being shifted to Bengaluru. I have reached Wellington,” Col Singh was quoted as saying by PTI.

On his son’s condition, he said: “I can’t say anything about that…I am not sure.”

“He is critical but stable at the moment,” officials had said.
