Army chopper crash: CDS General Bipin Rawat passes away

New Delhi, Dec.8: Indian Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat has passed away today after the army chopper carrying him along with his wife and 12 other army staff crashed in Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. The Indian Air Force confirmed the demise of General Rawat along with 11 others through Twitter.

With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident.

Defence Minister Rajnath has expressed his grief over CDS’s sudden demise via Twitter.

Deeply anguished by the sudden demise of Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other Armed Forces personnel in an extremely unfortunate helicopter accident today in Tamil Nadu.

His untimely death is an irreparable loss to our Armed Forces and the country.

In another tweet, he said, ” General Rawat had served the country with exceptional courage and diligence. As the first Chief of Defence Staff he had prepared plans for jointness of our Armed Forces.”

Meanwhile, Group Captain Varun Singh is undergoing treatment at the Military Hospital, Wellington.

“My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this accident. Praying for the speedy recovery of Gp Capt Varun Singh, who is currently under treatment at the Military Hospital, Wellington,” Rajnath Singh added in his thread of tweets.
