New Delhi: In two coordinated operations conducted within 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army neutralised six terrorists in Tral and Pulwama, navigating vastly different terrains, senior defence officials confirmed today.

Mountain assault in Tral, village siege in Pulwama

Major General Dhananjay Joshi, GOC V Force, stated that the army received intelligence on May 12 about terrorist presence in the forested highlands of Kelar, near Tral. The next morning, movement was spotted and the army initiated a contact operation. In the ensuing firefight, three terrorists were eliminated.

Simultaneously, in Pulwama, security forces cordoned off a village where terrorists had taken shelter in residential homes. The priority, Major General Joshi noted, was to safely evacuate civilians before engaging the enemy. All three hiding militants, believed to be part of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were shot dead in the exchange.

Identities and terror links confirmed

The three Pulwama terrorists were identified as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmed Bhat — all associated with JeM. One of the militants killed in the Tral encounter, Shahid Kutte, had a history of orchestrating deadly attacks, including one on a German tourist and the assassination of a sarpanch earlier this year. He was also linked to terror funding.

“Wherever the terrorists hide, we will find them and neutralise them,” declared Major General Joshi, reaffirming the army’s proactive stance.

Operations under Operation Sindoor doctrine

These successful operations reflect the aggressive doctrinal shift under Operation Sindoor, launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The campaign underscores India’s resolve to dismantle terror infrastructure irrespective of geography.

With close coordination between the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF, the operations also highlighted the growing synergy among security forces combating terrorism in the region.
