Jamshedpur, Jan 9: In a major breakthrough, the police on Monday arrested dreaded criminal Chowda Raju alias Raju Ansari from a place in Kapali under Chandil thana area of adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

For the Seraikela-Kharsawan district police and also for the police of the neighbouring districts police the arrest of Chowda Raju is a great relief because the criminal would escape arrest every time he would commit a grievous crime since the past one decade.

Revealing about the breakthrough, sub-divisional police officer, Chandil, Sanjay Kumar Singh said Chowda Raju (34) was nabbed from Gausnagar in Kapali this afternoon.

“The latest crime committed by Chowda Raju was an attempt of extorting Rs 10 lakhs from a resident of Kapali for letting him encroach government land at Dobo in Kapali in March 2022.  The resident identified as Abul Qaise had lodged an FIR against Chowda Raju and two others with the Kapali TOP, causing the hardcore criminal to flee, ” said the SDPO while talking to the media.

Singh said the Chandil police which had set a special team to nab the criminal got a tip off that he was hiding at Gausnagar. Acting on the tip off, the Kapali TOP officer-in-charge Sunil Gupta led the team in laying a trap and ultimately succeeded in nailing the criminal, ” said the SDPO.

The police officer said Chowda Raju was involved in dozens of cases of extortion, robbery, loot and kidnapping spreading over West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.  He pointed out Chowda Raju is such a terror that several people who would fall victim to crime committed by him would prefer to evade lodging complaints with the police.

The arrested criminal was forwarded to the Seraikela divisional jail after his production before a judicial magistrate in the evening.
