Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state tourism secretary to visit the Chhinnamasta Temple premises in Ramgarh and submit a detailed beautification proposal. The order came during a hearing on a contempt petition related to earlier directions on improving infrastructure and safety at the temple site.

Court Raises Safety and Infrastructure Concerns

A bench led by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad instructed officials to ensure immediate safety measures, especially along the nearby riverbank where drowning incidents frequently occur. The court emphasized the need for proper barricading and asked whether Central Coalfields Limited had undertaken any development work under its CSR initiatives. It also suggested building a hospital near the temple to handle medical emergencies involving devotees.

Concerns Over Open Mines and Compliance

The court expressed concern over open mines in the region that have not been filled, warning of potential accidents. It noted that people are using these abandoned sites for activities like fish farming, increasing risk. The court directed senior officials, including the CMD of Central Coalfields Limited and secretaries from relevant departments, to be present at the next hearing scheduled for April 24.

Earlier Orders and Pending Compliance

The case stems from a public interest litigation filed in 2023, where the court had issued multiple directives to improve facilities at the temple. These included constructing bathing ghats, changing rooms, toilets, drinking water facilities, lighting, medical services, and removing encroachments. The court reiterated the need for strict compliance to ensure better safety and amenities for visitors.
