Dhanbad Dec 22: The government and private schools in Dhanbad will start classes from 9 am from tomorrow for two months (till February 28, 2023) in wake of the decline in temperature and cold weather gripping the region.

Dhanbad Deputy commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh issued a notification to the management and officials of all government and private schools in this regard today saying that due to the cold weather, no institution would hold classes before 9 am with immediate effect from Friday (December 23).

Notably, the temperature of the Dhanbad district has been recorded at 20 degrees Celsius in the last week of December.

“Under no circumstances will any public or private school open for the day or hold classes before 9 am. Students would not enter the building before 8.55 am. The order would go into effect immediately and last until February 28, 2023,” said the DC’s order.

The DC said that the School Education and Literacy department of the state government had directed to hold classes from 9 am from December 16, 2022, across the state in wake of the winter season. But some private and non-government institutions open before 9 am and hold classes in violation of the order. So, now every institution has to follow today’s order with immediate effect.

The DC also directed the concerned officers to ensure all government, as well as private school management, follow the order. However, the DC said that from February 28, 2023, onwards, the private school management would be able to change the timings of their institution at their level.

Guardians of private school students welcomed the decision of the district administration. “The order is good for mothers and students both. Especially, for junior students who do not like to wake up early in the morning for school. Besides, we would also get one-hour additional time to prepare them,” said Sangita Singh, a guardian of a student who reads in a posh private school.

However, another guardian Aditi Singh said that the change in timing would give relaxation to the junior students but it is not in the interest of senior students.
