New Delhi, June 21: After testing positive for COVID-19, senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will not travel to the United Kingdom with his teammates for the one-off fifth Test.
Ashwin is now quarantined and will only be allowed to rejoin the squad if all protocol requirements have been met. On June 16, the Indian squad flew to the United Kingdom.
“Ashwin did not accompany the team to the United Kingdom because he tested positive for Covid 19 before leaving. However, we are optimistic that he would be able to recover in time for the Test match on July 1 ” a BCCI source informed PTI.
“However, he may miss the Leicestershire practise game,” the source added.
The rest of the team has arrived in Leicester and has begun working with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour.
After ending their T20 tour of South Africa, Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer have arrived in London and will fly to Leicester on Tuesday.
Because the team members have been allowed a three-day rest, the Ireland-bound group, led by VVS Laxman, will depart for Dublin on June 23 or 24.
