New Delhi, Sept 2: Ravindra Jadeja, an all-around player for India, was removed from the team for the 2022 Asia Cup on Friday due to injury. Axar Patel was named as Jadeja’s immediate replacement in the squad.
According to a statement from the BCCI, Jadeja is no longer eligible for the competition due to an injury to his right knee.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing Asia Cup. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. His replacement, Axar Patel was earlier named as one of the standbys in the squad and will join the team in Dubai soon,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Axar was originally listed as one of the squad’s standby players and would shortly travel to Dubai to work with the group.
During India’s 148-run chase against Pakistan last Sunday, Jadeja was moved up to number four in place of the left-handed Rishabh Pant and scored an important 35. Jadeja had statistics of 1/15 in the second game against Hong Kong, which resulted in a 40-run victory.
