New Delhi, Sep 25: The Indian women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the tournament’s final match by a margin of 19 runs to take home the gold medal. This was India’s second Asian Games gold medal in 2023.
In the championship, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. Shafali Varma, the opener, was the first to go down, and Sugandika Kumari took her first wicket of the day. Then, to put India back in the match, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues combined for a key 73-run stand to get back in the game.
India managed to post 116 for 7 on the scoreboard after 20 overs from a position of 102 for 3 after 16.4 overs.
India started the second innings with an advantage, taking three early wickets.
Sri Lanka finally scored 97 for 8 on the board after 20 overs, falling behind by 19 runs.
Sadhu, claiming three wickets while giving away six runs in four overs, was the pick of the bowlers for India. India bagged their second gold medal at the current Asian Games 2023 with this.
