Jamshedpur, June 8: In a sensational incident, three youths including a hardcore criminal were gunned down at Satbohni area in Adityapur thana area, about nine km away from the heart of the steel city late last night.

The shooting took place at an open place near the Durga Temple in Satbohni at about 11 pm while the three were busy boozing.

Those killed were identified as Ashish Gorai (30), Rajib Gorai (28) and Sudhir Chatterjee (29), all residents of Adityapur.

According to sources, two men came on a bike and started raining shots at the three and fled the spot, leaving the trio in a pool of blood. After about half an hour, a police party arrived at the scene and took them to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on the emergency duty declared them as brought dead.

Soon after, the Adityapur thana OC Alok Dubey reached the spot and inspected the scene before going to the hospital to look at the bodies.

“From the initial probe, it appeared that the assailants had shot Ashish Gorai and then only killed the other two.  We have come to know that one Chhotu Ram, who is a member of the notorious Santosh Thapa gang, was one of the two assailants,” said Dubey.

The OC said Ashish Gorai, who was also a member of the Thapa gang, had recently developed bad blood with Chhotu Ram in the sequel to a dispute over a girl.

Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Anand Prakash visited the place of occurrence on Wednesday morning.

“Murder of three persons at a densely-populated area like Satbohni is a serious thing to happen. We will detect the killers soon and arrest them,” said the SP.

According to police, Ashish Gorai and Chhotu Ram were associated with the Thapa gang and were arrested for their indulgence in the murder of Congress leader Sanbabu Mukhi in Adityapur three years ago.

The gang leader Santosh Thapa was also arrested in the Sanbabu murder case and the three had come out of jail on bail recently.

The police are trying to reach Santosh Thapa, but his mobile phone is switched off.

Meanwhile, the police have started raiding hideouts in and around Adityapur in search of Chhotu Ram and Santosh Thapa.
