Assam floods: CM visits flood-hit areas, situation improves in Morigaon

New Delhi, June 26: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, paid a visit to the flood-affected Barak valley region on Sunday. He also visited Silchar’s flood-affected districts and heard residents’ complaints.

According to reports from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the flood situation in Assam’s Morigaon area is gradually becoming better as the flood waters begin to recede.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the Assam floods rose to 121 on Saturday after at least four more people, including two children, perished in the last 24 hours. Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, and Golaghat districts all reported one death.

Despite a slight improvement in Assam’s overall flood situation on Saturday, more than 25.10 lakh people continue to be affected by the flooding in 2,894 villages spread across 27 different districts, including Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur and Udalguri.
