Morigaon, Aug 30: After floods from an overflowing Brahmaputra river flooded many villages during nonstop rain in several parts of the state, water surged into homes in Assam’s Morigaon district.
More than 15,000 people, according to the officials, were impacted by the flooding in the Morigaon district.
Locals in the Mayong area of Morigaon district were seen watching as their homes were destroyed by the hungry tides in a widely shared video clip.
The Brahmaputra River is currently running over the danger level mark at 49.87 meters, according to a report released by the Central Water Commission (CWC) on Tuesday.
The Brahmaputra River and its tributaries’ water levels have been rising as a result of persistent rainfall in several sections of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and they have even exceeded the danger threshold in some of those regions.
On Sunday, the flood situation in Assam deteriorated, with over 53,000 people reported marooned in six different districts throughout the state.
Up to 17 districts are currently wallowing in the flood. Lakhimpur district is the worst-affected, followed by Dhemaji.
Nearly 24,000 locals in Dhemaji have been impacted, and further 12,000, 8,500, and 7,500 people have been left stranded in the districts of Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, and Dibrugarh, respectively.
The flood buried roughly 3000 hectares of cropland in the flood-hit regions, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), and struck 120 villages under 11 revenue circles.
