Based on confidential information, Karbi Anglong district police and CRPF forces put up a checkpoint in front of SBI Khatkhati near Bokajan and apprehended a truck in the early hours of Monday.
115 cartons of soap containers carrying 1.6 kg of heroin were discovered during a comprehensive check of the vehicle by the police team. The truck was coming from Manipur, according to Bokajan SDPO John Das.
“1.6 kg of heroin was seized which was concealed in the cabin of the truck and the value of the heroin is estimated to be around Rs 10 crore. We have arrested two persons,” John Das said.
The arrested individuals have been named as Amir Hussain, 22, and Salau Rahman, 32, both of Manipur.
According to the Bokajan SDPO, the drugs were supposed to be delivered to the Bokajan area after passing through all of the checkpoints.
“When the driver, Amir Hussain, was taken to the Bokajan area to show the delivery point, he felt uneasy and wanted to get down from the police vehicle. But as soon as he got down he pushed our police personnel and tried to escape. Then the police party fired two rounds by aiming at his legs and the accused got injured. He was immediately shifted to Bokajan CHC for treatment and later on was referred to DMC&H Diphu for further treatment,” John Das said.
