Assembly polls: Voting underway for 40 seats in Goa, 70 seats in Uttarakhand

New Delhi, Feb 14: Polling in Goa and Uttarakhand began at 7 a.m. today, and people have been voting since then.

According to election officials, 301 individuals are running for the 40 Assembly seats in Goa. A total of 11 lakh persons are eligible to vote. There are 9,590 people with impairments, 2,997 people over the age of 80, 41 sex workers, and nine transgender people among them. The results of the election will be announced on March 10. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Trinamool Congress (TMC), and several smaller parties are fighting for a place on Goa’s electoral landscape.

Former Chief Ministers Churchill Alemao (TMC), Ravi Naik (BJP), Laxmikant Parsekar (independent), former deputy CMs Vijai Sardesai (GFP) and Sudin Dhavalikar (MGP), late CM Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal Parrikar, and AAP’s CM face Amit Paleker are among the noteworthy candidates.

Meanwhile, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant exercised his franchise rights, casts his vote in Kothambi. Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane casts his vote at GPS Vithalapur Karapur Primary School in Maem Assembly constituency.

Elections in 70 Assembly constituencies across 13 districts in Uttarakhand also commenced today. In the state, there are 632 candidates running for office.

The voting began at 8 a.m. and is being conducted in accordance with the Election Commission’s Covid-19 standards (EC). Today, a total of 81 lakh eligible voters are scheduled to vote. It will be held at 11,697 polling booths in 8,624 sites and will end at 5 p.m.

“All our schemes have provided a shield for the people of Uttarakhand; the public knows very well who can work for the development of the state. I’m sure that the Uttarakhand public will bring BJP on 60+ seats,” said CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, in Khatima.
