Ranchi, June 29: With the implementation of the New Education Policy 2020 and its focus to give importance to traditional languages like Sanskrit and Jharkhand’s dialects such as Ho, and Khortha among others, the demand for these may increase in near future.
Ranchi University (RU) and Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) provide courses in UG and PG in the Sanskrit language among other traditional languages.

Dr Dhananjay of DSPMU said, “Certain topics in astrology are taught to students, which may help them in calculating certain astrological aspects like panchang vichar. However, they can’t declare themselves astrologers just based on this course.
“In the case of Vastu shastra, students are taught about the shastra and the panch mahabhoot, making houses as per Vastu, choosing a plot, checking lands, types of lands, problems associated with lands, types of Vaastu, gates among others,” he added.
He further said, “Charatsanghita, Shushrutsanghita, Ashtanghriday, Madhavnitan, Saranthansaghita, and Bhavprakash are parts of the Ayurveda topics.”
Apart from history, literature and grammar in Sanskrit, interested candidates may expect the studies of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita, Kathopnishad, Sanskrit plays, and even Indian culture and politics. In terms of the history of the language, students are taught the history of literature and poems in Sanskrit.
Furthermore, the course includes Vedic literature, and theatrical art, among other topics. Students are also taught in detail about Ayurveda, its history and the uses of different types of medicines. Students will also be able to learn metaphysics and epistemology.
