New Delhi, Nov 15: Pat Cummins, the skipper of Australia’s Test and ODI teams, has made the decision to skip the IPL 2023. On Tuesday, the legendary all-arounder announced this on twitter.
Cummins cited the jam-packed international schedule as the cause of his decision to forego the Indian T20 competition. The athlete also expressed gratitude to Kolkata Knight Riders, his IPL team, for supporting his choice. It’s important to note that Cummins made his declaration on November 15, the last day for all 10 IPL clubs to submit their list of retained and released players.
“I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next years IPL. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI’s for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup,” said Cummins on Twitter.
“Thanks so much to @KKRiders for their understanding. Such a terrific team of players and staff and I hope I can get back there ASAP,” he added.
By Tuesday at 5 p.m., all 10 IPL clubs must submit their list of players who have been retained, transferred, or released.
Recently, Cummins was a member of Australia’s T20 World Cup team. The team was unable to advance to the competition’s semifinals. Aaron Finch’s retirement from the ODI format led to Cummins’ appointment as Australia’s captain earlier this year. Earlier this year, Cummins led Australia to a notable Test series victory in Pakistan.
