Melbourne, Jan 16: The Australian Open has revealed its first round schedule, which includes tennis world number one Novak Djokovic, pending a court ruling on his visa cancellation. The match between Djokovic and unseeded fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic will play place in the evening session on Monday at Rod Laver Arena, according to organisers.

Djokovic, the defending champion, is appealing Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s cancellation of his visa at the Federal Court, which could rule on whether the Serb can stay in the nation later on Sunday.

After hearing arguments from Djokovic’s lawyers and the federal immigration minister, the federal court deferred Djokovic’s visa issue to deliberate its verdict.

“We would hope to be in a position to identify to the parties later in the afternoon what the course is that we propose,” Chief Justice James Allsop told the court.

The tennis star’s fate will be decided by the court after a tumultuous 10 days that saw him held by immigration officials, released, and then detained again ahead of a tournament that begins on Monday.
