Daltonganj, April 30: Axe is set to fall on 6 personnel including one doctor of the Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Daltonganj in connection with the death of a young woman Anjali Devi.
The woman had a normal delivery but lost life following a postpartum haemorrhage wherein the unit doctor, nurses and OT staff have been found negligent in duty.
Anjali Devi delivered a girl child on April 26 at MMCH Daltonganj. She had then a minor surgical intervention. Later, she developed a postpartum haemorrhage and was referred to RIMS Ranchi.
She died en route to Ranchi the same day. Her family staged a strong protest against the negligence that caused her death. Her husband Binod Barai even lodged a criminal case against four doctors and seven nurses including OT staff etc on April 27.
Medical superintendent of MMCH Dr Dilip Kumar Singh told lagatar24.com today (April 30) that he has sent a report regarding one doctor Qader Perwez to the Palamu civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar to initiate proper action within the ambit of the law.
The medical superintendent said as Dr Qader Perwez is a medical officer in the MMCH Daltonganj, only Palamu CS can take a call on him. He further said this doctor is a named accused in the FIR. He was served a show-cause notice also.
Singh said Qader Perwez has sent his reply to the show-cause notice served to him. The Medical superintendent politely declined to elaborate on his reply saying a copy of Perwez’s reply to the show-cause notice has been forwarded to the CS for perusal and needful.
The medical superintendent said he has recommended either suspension or transfer of 5 more who comprise ANM, GNM and two trolley men. He has sent his recommendation for the suspension or transfer of these 5 to the CS.
On being contacted, Palamu CS Dr Anil Kumar said he has received the recommendations of the medical superintendent. He said the model code of conduct is enforced now in the wake of the panchayat elections. So, there is a set protocol for transfer, deputation or suspension.
Dr Anil Kumar said he has to first intimate the matter and follow up action to the district election officer cum deputy commissioner to issue a directive in this matter in consultation with the state election commission Jharkhand.
“All eyes are now on the directive of the state election commission Jharkhand as to when and how it permits the authority to initiate proper and adequate action against the 6 personnel including the Dr Qader Perwez,” the CS said.
A section of doctors and paramedic staff had assembled at the Gol Ghar in the premises of the MMCH Daltonganj on Friday, April 29, where everyone had their own way of looking at or explaining the April 26 incident in which Anjali Devi had died.
The family of the deceased contended that there was callous and colossal negligence that led to the death of Anjali Devi. A probe team set by the medical superintendent had also found a series of negligence that hastened the death of Anjali.
Sources said on April 26, from 8 am to 2 pm when Anjali Devi was admitted to MMCH Daltonganj, no gynaecologist visited or examined her.
Medical superintendent Dr D K Singh said this period has been proven of extreme negligence by the probe team and so the axe is bound to fall on the six personnel involved in the matter.
