Kolkata, July 10: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Babul Supriyo has been chosen to serve as the party’s national spokesperson.
The former union minister, Supriyo, thanked the party chief on Twitter for granting him the new duty.
“My sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Didi @MamataOfficial & @abhishekaitc for appointing/including me in the illustrious Team of National Spokespersons of @AITCofficial. Shall do my very best to live up to the responsibility entrusted upon me,” he tweeted.

After being fired from his position in the Union cabinet last year, Supriyo, a former BJP member, joined the TMC. He renounced the Lok Sabha seat in Asansol that he had twice won on BJP tickets. The singer-turned-politician was then put forward by the ruling TMC for the Ballygunge assembly by-election in April of this year, where he easily won the seat.
