Dumka, April 28: Former chief minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi has fired a fresh salvo at the Chief Minister Hemant Soren in particular and the entire Soren family at large by accusing them of playing polymorphism in terms of shifting their residential identity to grab lands elsewhere in the state.
Marandi, who led the BJP’s agitational program against the Soren government on Wednesday to protest against the deteriorating power supply situation in the state during the prevailing scorching heat, came forward with the copies of the documents of transfer of lands in the favour of the Chief Minister Hemant Soren and other family members including his elder and younger brothers; late Durga Soren and Basant Soren; at different districts by what he claimed manipulating their residential identities.
“Section 46 of the Chhotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act unequivocally provides that only those tribals being the residents of a particular police station area can purchase lands situated under its jurisdiction from community members. However, the fact that the Soren family have managed to ensure the transfer of lands in their favour by misrepresenting themselves to be the residents of respective police station areas in different districts,” Marandi claimed to display the land documents of the Soren family before the media in a press conference here on Thursday.
For other backward classes and schedule casts the limitation for the selling and purchases of lands are extended to the limit of districts under the provisions of the CNT Act.
Marandi asked how can a person have different residential identities particularly when someone is at the helm of affairs of the state and enjoys the status of representing an influential political clan.
Marandi further said that the Sorens have grabbed vast areas of land in Ranchi, Bokaro and Dhanbad by what he termed fraudulently shifting their residential identities in utter violation of the CNT Act.
“For instance, Sorens have submitted their residential identity at Govindpur in Dhanbad, Harmu Housing Colony, Bariatu, Angarha and Kanke road in Ranchi and Chass in Bokaro to purchase lands in respective police station areas which is nothing but the glaring instance of a fraudulent act from the part of them all,” Marandi said the chief minister should himself come forward to explain his stand over the revelation.
“The role of the respective deputy commissioners was also under the scanner as the sell and purchase of lands can only materialise after their consent and verification of the residential identity of the buyer,” the former chief minister remarked, adding the BJP would knock the doors of the Governor for a wider probe into the violation of the CNT Act by Sorens.
