Bengaluru, Feb 23: Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said on Wednesday that, as many as eight people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Harsha in Shivamogga.
“Until last night, six suspects were arrested and today two more arrests have been made,” said the minister speaking to the reporters.
“Eight persons have been arrested as of now officially, others are being interrogated, investigation going on in all angles.Senior officers, including 2 ADGPs, and the Police force are doing an investigation,” the Karnataka Home Minister said.
Talking about the situation in the state in view of the hijab ban protests, he said that everything is under control and peace has been restored in Shivamogga.
Meanwhile, Selvamani R, the district’s Deputy Commissioner, declared that CrPC section 144 has been prolonged for two more days, until Friday am. Harsha, a Bajrang Dal worker, was allegedly slain near Shivamogga on Sunday night. Following the incident, the city’s security was beefed up.
Following the death of a Bajrang Dal worker in Shivamogga, police presence has been boosted in most sensitive places, and a Rapid Action Force has been formed in Udupi. Route patrolling was done on Wednesday by Rapid Action Force and Police in Udupi.
