Dhanbad, July 17: “First 20 seconds before an interview is vital for a candidate,” said corporate trainer Chandrashekhar Mahtha of Sarala Birla University, Ranchi.
He was interacting with students at a workshop on ‘How to Face Interview’.
The workshop was organized by the university department of Mass Communication, Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU), Dhanbad today.
Mahtha said an interview is not just a question-answer session. Rather, it is a test of personality and aimed at assessing a candidate’s fitness for the concerned job, he added.
“It is natural to be nervous in the interview but one must try to overcome it with a positive attitude. Even the interviewer is under stress during the interview,” he observed.
On the occasion, Dean of Students Welfare (DSW) Dr Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Dr DK Giri, Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary, Dr K Bandopadhyay, Dr Sunanda Kumari, Dr Tapti Chakravarty, Dr Kaushik Das Gupta, Dr Alok Upadhyay and other senior faculty members were also present.
Mahtha underlined certain do’s and don’ts which should be kept in mind while going to appear at an interview. “What one should do is no doubt important but what one should not do is still much more important,” he added.
He said the preparation for the interview should begin much earlier keeping in mind the nature of the job one is seeking for himself.
Dr Jitendra Aryan, the head of the Department of Mass Communication, while introducing the topic of the session said that an interview is an important part of every recruitment process and every aspiring candidate has to go through an interview after he/she has qualified a written exam.
“So, don’t take an interview as a test of knowledge only. Take it as a conversation between the interviewee and the interviewer in which the aspirant has to convince the employer that he is the person (competent and suitable) the company is looking for.”
Dr Vikash Chandra Dey welcomed the guest and Dr Pawan Kumar Pandey introduced the guests and proposed a vote of thanks.
