Ranchi: In a move aimed at making judicial procedures faster and more transparent, Jharkhand Police has decided to deliver court summons through a digital system. The new process will be carried out using an E-Summon Application, which will manage the entire procedure—from issuance of summons by courts to their service—online.

E-Summon Application Introduced For Faster Process

According to instructions issued by the police headquarters, the digital system has been developed in line with the newly implemented criminal laws. The E-Summon Application will allow authorities to process and track summons electronically, ensuring quicker communication between courts and police units.

The application has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), New Delhi, and is expected to significantly reduce delays in the delivery of court summons.

District Nodal Officers To Oversee Implementation

To implement the system effectively, district-level nodal officers will be appointed across the state. These officers will function as district administrators for the application and will oversee its operation and monitoring.

Their responsibilities will include generating user IDs for police officials in every police station, ensuring digital service of summons, and supervising the proper functioning of the E-Summon Application in their respective districts.

Police Headquarters Issues Statewide Instructions

The police headquarters has directed all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to implement the new system. Each district has been instructed to submit the details of its nominated nodal officer to the police headquarters by March 8, 2026.

Real-Time Tracking And Greater Accountability

Officials said that the traditional method of sending summons often caused delays, which sometimes affected court proceedings. With the new digital platform, summons can be tracked in real time, reducing the chances of lost documents and delays.

Police authorities believe that the initiative will strengthen smart policing and promote digital governance in Jharkhand by making legal procedures more efficient and accountable.
