Dhanbad, July 25: The Teachers’ Association of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKUTA) has called an executive committee meeting tomorrow (July 26) to decide the date of the organizational poll.
BBMKUTA general secretary Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary has in this regard shot off a letter to members of the executive committee to attend the meeting at the University Academic Block, Bhelatand on Wednesday and finalize the possible date of AGM, date of election place of polling booths and others issues.
The teachers of Dhanbad–Bokaro based constituent colleges of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University would elect the office bearers.
The election of BBMKUTA has been due since 2020. BBMKU became a separate university in 2017 and the first election of the teachers’ body had been conducted in January 2018 under the supervision of the Federation of University Teachers Association of Jharkhand (FUTAJ).
But due to Corona pandemic and other frequent changing of Vice-Chancellors, the election of BBMKUTA could not be conducted on time.
In the first election, teachers of the university were divided into houses and two associations were formed under the general secretaryship of Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary and Dr BN Singh respectively. Dr BN Singh was also general secretary of Vinoba Bhave University Hazaribagh when BBMKU Dhanbad was set up from its 10 constituent colleges.
However, the political situation of BBMKUTA has changed in five years. Both the warring factions of Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary and Dr BN Singh have mended their fence in the interest of teachers and decided to hold organizational polls unitedly.
A senior teacher of the university said that unity between Dr Choudhary and Dr Singh would of course make teachers body of the university stronger to negotiate with the university authorities at their own terms and conditions.
Though the teachers’ body’s organizational poll is due in several universities of the state including VBU Hazaribagh, the election in BBMKU keeps significance as it is going to host the FUTAJ election in the near future. FUTAJ general secretary Dr Raj Kumar had recently visited Dhanbad and held a discussion over it with BBMKUTA general secretary.
