Dhanbad Oct 27: B.Ed students of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) have started a protest against arbitrary hike in the course fee and have demanded an immediate roll back of the fee structure.
A delegation of B. Ed students met Dean of Students Welfare (DSW), Devyani Biswas, and handed over a memorandum to her demanding withdrawal of the order regarding hike in B.Ed course fee from 2021-22 sessions. The students have already lodged a protest in Grievance Cell of the university against the matter.
BBMKU management has increased the B.Ed course fee by Rs 30,000 from 2021 academic session. Earlier it was Rs 1.20 lakh for general students and Rs 1.10 lakh for SC/ST. But now with the increased charge, students will have to pay Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs 1.40 lakh respectively.
“It is ironical that rather than reducing the fee in wake of Corona pandemic, the university authorities have increased it without considering the problems of students. We will continue the protest of this decision until university authorities roll it back,” said ABVP district coordinator Himanshu Tiwary and Yuva Chhatra Sangharsh Morcha president Rishikant Yadav.
The students have also lodged a complaint against private B.Ed colleges for allegedly charging higher examination fee than fixed by the university.
In a written complaint to the university, B.Ed students have alleged that some private colleges cahrge Rs 5000 as examination fee whereas university has fixed it at Rs 2,050.
“Private B.Ed colleges realize Rs 5000 against Rs 2,050 but do not give any receiving to the examinees“, said a student leader.
