New Delhi, Oct 20: After the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that having the Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral site could hinder the Pakistan team’s visit to India for the forthcoming ODI World Cup in 2023, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur stated on Thursday that the BCCI will look into the situation.
“It’s a matter of BCCI and the board will look into it to make comments. India is a land of sports, where not only one but many World Cups have been hosted and the next World Cup too will be hosted in India with teams from around the world participating in it,” said Thakur while speaking at the announcement ceremony for the upcoming Khelo India Youth Games.
“India cannot be ignored in any sector. It has contributed a lot to the world of cricket and the World Cup will be grand, historic and successful,” he added.
The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah’s remarks regarding holding the 2023 Asia Cup at a neutral site rather than Pakistan could have an impact on the country’s trip to India for the 50-over World Cup next year, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in an official statement.
Notably, Jay Shah announced on the sidelines of the 91st BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Tuesday that the Indian cricket team would not be going to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup.
