Kolkata, June 20: The Bengal Assembly passed a resolution on Monday condemning BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s comments on Muhammad. When the state government issued a resolution denouncing Sharma’s remarks on the Prophet Muhammad, BJP leaders staged a walkout.

This comes just four days after seven BJP MLAs were suspended from the West Bengal legislature, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and Chief Whip Manoj Tigga. The suspension has been lifted at this time.

When Banerjee was speaking in the Assembly, BJP leaders led by Suvendhu Adhikari began a protest.

“We took action when there was violence in the state. But how come this lady (Nupur Sharma) is still not arrested? I know she will not be arrested. She has sought time from Kolkata Police for four weeks. She was to appear before the police today,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, due to purported threats against her life over her controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad, Nupur Sharma has requested a four-week extension to appear before the Kolkata Police.
