Ranchi, August 4, The West Bengal police today carried out a search on the residential cum official premises of Jharkhand High Court lawyer Rajiv Kumar as well as a rice millShree Shakambari Rice Mill in Ranchi on Thursday.
His house is located at Gauri Shankar Nagar at Argora whereas the rice mill owned by his brother Anish Kumar at Tupudana in Ranchi. The searches were carried in connection with an ongoing probe against Rajiv Kumar for demanding Rs 10 Crore as extortion from Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agrawal to manage his case in a PIL 4290/21 filed before the Jharkhand High Court. The Kolkata police claimed that it arrested the advocate on Sunday evening along with Rs 50 Lakh cash taken from the businessman.
The Kolkata police secured his six days police remand for further questioning. The PIL under question was filed by one Shiv Shankar Sharma and Rajiv Kumar was his advocate in this PIL. Amit Agrawal is not among the respondents in this case. But in the PIL one of his companies was dubbed as a shell company through which money was laundered. During the hearing the Jharkhand High Court had refused to entertain his advocate on the ground that he is not respondent in this PIL.
