Hazaribagh, July 14: A single bicycle-riding man was behind theft at two medicine shops and at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH).
Theft in retail medicine shops of the town had brought the Sadar Police under attack with local residents terming it as a law and order failure. Now, the police have arrested the thief behind this incident who was grabbed by a CCTV breaking the shutter of a medicine shop with an iron rod a few days ago.
Police officials said they have arrested the accused identified as Suraj Ram, son of Shambhu Ram, a resident of Sardar Chowk Dhanbad Gali in town. In his confessional statement, he admitted stealing an oxygen pipe from SBMCH besides committing theft at two medicine shops including the Club Pharma medicine shop located near Jain Petrol Pump and Maa Laxmi medicine shop located in Nawabgunj.
The Sadar police after conducting a medical examination of the accused Suraj sent him in judicial custody.
It has been told that the police have caught him from the Sadar police station area after getting pieces of evidence against him in a probe. Police officials said Suraj used to roam the entire city on a cycle and did recce and then carried out the theft incident. “We will interrogate him to know whether he was behind thefts reported in other medicines shops of the town which took place recently,” a police official said.
