New Delhi, Nov 21: In the Vaishali district of Bihar, at least 12 people, including numerous children, were murdered on Sunday when a speeding truck ploughed into a gathering. Mehnar hamlet in the Vaishali district is where the accident happened.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the surviving family members of the deceased and a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the injured following the accident.
The prime minister also wished everyone hurt in the collision a quick recovery.
Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, also sent his sympathies and said the incident had left him “very pained.” The chief minister granted orders to provide the relatives of the deceased an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh. Additionally, he requested that all relevant authorities treat all injured people properly and prayed for their quick recovery.
The accident was described as very terrible by President Droupadi Murmu, who also wished the injured a swift recovery.
“May God give peace to the departed souls and strength to their families to bear this loss,” his deputy Tejashwi Yadav also took to Twitter and said.
Police have in the meantime taken the truck’s driver and helper into custody. According to Vaishali SP, a medical examination will be required before determining whether or not the driver was intoxicated.
