Patna, March 2: The Election Commission declared on Wednesday that elections for 24 legislative council seats in Bihar will be held on April 4.
Candidates have till March 16 to file their nominations and until March 23 to withdraw their candidacy. The counting of votes will be done on April 7.
In Bihar’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting on the 12 seats of Rohtas, Aurangabad, Saran, Siwan, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Kisanganj, Katihar, Saharsa, Gopalganj, Begusarai and Samastipur.
Patna, Bhojpur, Gaya, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Bhagalpur, Munger, Nawada, and Madhubani will be contested by the Janata Dal (United), while Vaishali will be contested by the Rashtriya Lok Janashakti Party (RLJP).
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had previously announced 20 candidates for the Bihar legislative council elections, with the Communist Party of India receiving one seat.
However, it remained unclear whether the RJD would offer the remaining three seats to the Congress, which is expected to contest all 24 seats on its own.
