Bihar: Three policemen killed as hyva overturns on police gypsy in Danapur

Patna, Jan 4: Tuesday morning proved dangerous for Patna Police when a breakstone-laden Hyva overturned on police patrolling gypsy of Gardanibagh police station, patrolling near the New Bypass Anisabad Beur More of the capital city. It is being said, the accident happened around 4:30 in the morning on the border of Beur and Gardnibagh police station area.

The accident took place near the turning point of the road amid dense fog. The police gypsy caught fire as soon as the Hyva overturned on the Gypsy.

Notably, five policemen were trapped in the gypsy, of which three died on the spot, while two have been sent to PMCH in critical condition. Upon receiving the information, a large number of policemen, including SHO of Secretariat SP Beur police station, DSP Gardanibagh SHO, Phulwari SHO, reached the spot for relief and rescue. Initially, the fire brigade was called to extinguish the fire, and then with the help of a crane, police personnel buried in the gypsy were evacuated.

According to police officials, an SI along with four other policemen was present in the police gypsy at the time of the accident. According to DSP Pranjal Tripathi, a trainee of Beur police station, the names of one SI Siya Charan Paswan and two other policemen Pukhraj and Prabhu have come to the fore, among which, it isn’t yet clear who is injured and who is no more.

According to eyewitnesses, the breakstone-laden hyva passing at unbridled speed over the bypass was moving towards Anisabad in the midst of dense fog in the morning.

Due to dense fog, the gypsy driver could not have seen the hyva as it overturned on the gypsy from behind. As soon as the hyva overturned, there was an explosion in the gypsy and the five policemen in the gypsy were badly burnt.

The death of three policemen in a road accident has shocked fellow policemen.

Trainee DSP Pranjal Tripathi of Beur police station said that the hyva driver could not have seen the police gypsy due to the fog, which resulted in the accident. He further added that the driver of the hyva has fled, while the hyva has been confiscated by the police.
