Jamshedpur, Sept 9: Unidentified bike-borne criminals took away an SUV from near a roadside ‘dhaba’ along the NH-33 under Chandil police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district near Jamshedpur late on Thursday night.
The virtual loot of the SUV took place while the occupants of the vehicle were taking dinner inside the eatery, thus suggesting that criminals remain on the prowl on the NH-33 in search of their prey.
The victims, Mohit Kumar and Sanjay Prasad who introduced themselves to be employees of a Ranchi-based iron-trading company have approached the Chandil police for tracing the vehicle.
The Chandil police station OC, Ajit Kumar confirmed the loot of the SUV but claimed that the victims were giving a confusing statement regarding the incident.
The OC said the criminals decamped with the SUV after smashing the windshield of the vehicle while the two occupants of it, including the driver, were busy taking their dinner inside the Dhaba.
The victims were on their way to Jamshedpur from Ranchi when the incident took place around 11 pm.
“The two had come inside the eatery leaving the key of the SUV intact in the vehicle’s keyboard. While they were busy with their dinner, the criminals came and smashed the windshield by using a helmet and took away the vehicle. But the victims claimed that the criminals committed the loot having fired three rounds of shots whereas there is no sign of firing, ” stated the OC while talking to lagatar24.com.
Ajit Kumar said during the investigation today, they talked to several local residents who had seen a gang of four criminals smashing the SUV’s windshield and fleeing with the vehicle but no one did say anything about firing.
“Moreover, no empty cartridge was found on the spot as such which is a common thing in event of any firing incident. There must be something else between the occupants of the SUV and those who took it away. We are trying to find out the truth and also the looted SUV, ” said the OC.
