Jamshedpur, March 27: Two bike-borne youth opened fire targeting inside the Jamshedpur Civil Court premises at Bhuiyadih in Sitaramdera thana area, triggering sensation on Monday afternoon.
The bikers fled the scene having fired two shots reportedly targeting a prosecution witness Praveen Kumar Singh who escaped unhurt.
Praveen had come to depose in connection with the Manpreet Singh murder case and was about to return back home from the gate No 3 of the civil court when the firing took place. Soon thereafter, the police men present nearby swung into action and provided necessary security cover to the prosecution witness.
A police official who was posted at the gate No 3 in the court security duty said after the first round was fired, he thought it to be the sound created due to bursting of a cycle tyre.
“But following another sound back-to-back, I sensed these due to gun firing. Soon I turned around to see a pillion rider with a pistol in hand, apparently bent upon to fire more shots. As I came out of the gate towards the bike-riders, the later sped away towards the crowded Bhuiyadih,” narrated the police official.
Minutes after the firing incident, Sitaramdera thana OC, Meghnath Mandal reached the spot and had started investigating the incident while taking note of the court premises security.
Firing in or outside the civil court premises is not a new thing to happen. In 2016, transporter Upendra Singh had been gunned down in the Jamshedpur Bar Building while he was consulting his lawyer. Ever since that incident, security of the court premises was enhanced. Recently, a youth was caught with a pistol by the cops posted at one of the gates of the civil court.
