Dhanbad, June 20: Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT) Sindri brand flashed within 24 hours of attaining AICTE’s 2nd rank among engineering colleges in the country.
Jai Balaji Groups, one of the largest steel manufacturers company with captive power generation and plants in eastern India, rushed to the campus and picked up 15 students from five branches including civil engineering, metallurgical engineering, production engineering, electrical engineering and computer science and engineering.
The institution on Friday (June 17) was declared to have bagged the 2nd rank among engineering colleges in the country based on the merit of the students.
A total of 193 students of BIT got a 5-star rank (scored over 70% mark) in the online examination conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) across the engineering colleges of the country. Only Pune Engineering College students got more than a BIT 5-star rank.
The AICTE result was declared on Friday and 24 hours later, on Saturday, Jai Balaji Private Limited rushed in on the campus and selected its gems.
Prof (Dr) Ghanshyam, the chairman of the Career Development Centre (CDC) of BIT Sindri, who organized the campus placement drive said that the selection process was divided into two parts. In the first stage, a written test was conducted to examine the technical skills of the students and in the second stage, the interview was held.
“Total of 39 students appeared of which 35 of them cleared the written examination. After the interview 15 of them were selected on the spot,” said Prof Ghanshyam.
In the first phase of the result, four students namely Umme Kulsum (civil), Md Touseef Raja, Roshan Oranw and Ashish Jamuda (all electrical engineering) were selected.
In the second phase of the result, 11 students -Gulshan Soren, Rajkumar Sahis, Amit Kumar, Arun Tirkey (all civil engineering), Saikat Chakraborty (electrical), Nitin Choudhary, Rahul Kumar Paswan (both mechanical), Vivek Kumar Singh (Metallurgical), Dipak Kumar Dubey, Siddeshwar Dutta, Alok Kumar Sah (all production engineering) were selected.
As the selection of the students was announced, BIT director DK Singh congratulated the successful candidates and thanked the recruitment team of Jai Balaji Group for conducting the process on the campus.
“The institution has achieved two major successes in 24 hours. First, it got the 2nd rank in the country in terms of meritorious students and secondly, 15 students were selected by Jai Balaji Groups. Placement team of credit goes to CDC and placement team,” said the director.
A senior authority of the institution said that efforts are being made for the placement of not only current students but also for the past, especially the students who suffered due to the Corona pandemic in the last two years.
