Dhanbad, Aug 17: Buoyed by the top rank among engineering colleges across the country in the national survey of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), BIT Sindri on Tuesday evening for the first time organized a seminar on ‘UPSC Preparation Guidance’ for its students in which the expert Sumit Thakur, who is an alumnus of the institution, guided them how to crack the competition.
Chief speaker Sumit Thakur, the 2014-18 batch computer science engineering student of BIT Sindri, who secured All India Rank 263 in UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021 and 154th rank in the JPSC Examination, guided the students in the selection of the subjects for preparations. He also shed light on how to tackle the GS section and essay section, how to choose optional subjects and the importance of backup plans.

He stressed on the strategies he followed to keep distractions at bay during his preparation years and the importance of ‘newspaper reading’ for current affairs. Sumit Thakur while sharing his experience emphasized on the importance of clubs on the campus in teaching him to deal with various life situations. He was an active member of the Model Club, Technical Club and Arts Club, and Cultural Club of BIT Sindri.

Sumit kept the seminar interactive by encouraging students to ask questions from any domain. He replied to every question and tried to convince them.
The seminar was organized by BIT Career Development Centre in which BIT director DK Singh, Prof Ghanshyam Kumar Singh, Prof Amarjeet Kumar, Prof Rajiv Ranjan and other faculty members of the institution were present.
BIT director DK Singh on the occasion recalled Sumit Thakur’s time in the institution and talked about how he was different from the rest from the very beginning. “Sumit was always focused on his dreams,” said DK Singh.
Career Development Centre chairman Prof Ghanshyam Kumar Singh welcomed Sumit Thakur and felicitated his mother who was also present in the seminar with a memento and Shawl.
