New Delhi: After Atishi‘s appointment as Delhi’s Chief Minister, BJP leader Harsh Malhotra extended his congratulations while taking a dig at the AAP leadership, urging Atishi to address critical issues that remained unresolved during Arvind Kejriwal’s ten-year tenure.
Malhotra emphasized the need for Atishi to tackle corruption and bring long-awaited development to the residents of Delhi. “She must ensure that the development and facilities that eluded Delhi residents over the last 10 years are finally delivered under her leadership,” he said.
Unresolved Infrastructure Issues
Pointing to her former role as PWD Minister, Malhotra highlighted the persisting issues of uncleaned sewage and widespread waterlogging across the city. He expressed hope that, as the new Chief Minister, Atishi would take decisive action to solve these problems.
“I hope that now as Chief Minister, Atishi will take decisive action to resolve these problems without any hindrance,” he added.
Controversial Remarks on Atishi’s Background
In response to Swati Maliwal‘s statement concerning Atishi’s family members’ support for Afzal Guru, Malhotra agreed, stating that Atishi and Kejriwal should reconsider their stance on supporting such individuals.
Atishi’s Oath Ceremony
Atishi is set to be sworn in as Delhi’s sixth Chief Minister on Saturday evening. The swearing-in will be held at the Raj Niwas at 4:30 p.m., where Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena will administer the oath to Atishi and her Council of Ministers.
The cabinet will retain ministers Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, while Mukesh Ahlawat, a Dalit MLA, will join as a new member. One ministerial post remains vacant.
Delhi’s Third Woman Chief Minister
Atishi will become Delhi’s third woman Chief Minister, following Sushma Swaraj of the BJP and Sheila Dikshit of the Congress.
On Tuesday evening, Atishi accompanied AAP’s National Convener Arvind Kejriwal to meet LG Saxena at Raj Niwas, where Kejriwal submitted his resignation and Atishi staked her claim to form the government.
Proving Majority in Assembly
After the swearing-in, Atishi will have to prove her government’s majority in the 70-member Assembly during a special session scheduled for September 26-27. The AAP is already in its fourth year of power in Delhi, and Atishi will lead the government for the remainder of the term, which runs until February, when the Assembly elections are due.
