Ranchi: With the Jharkhand Assembly elections approaching, the model code of conduct is expected to be enforced soon as preparations are underway. The Election Commission of India (ECI) will send a team to Ranchi on September 23 for a two-day visit to review the state’s election readiness. The team will include Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and the other two election commissioners.

In preparation for this visit, Jharkhand’s Chief Electoral Officer and the Inspector General (Operations) held a joint meeting on Friday with district SPs and DCs to discuss the Election Commission’s upcoming visit. The meeting reviewed security arrangements, accommodation, basic facilities for security forces, and the status of pending cases filed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Transfers of Police Officers Serving Over Three Years

Ahead of the assembly elections, police officers who had been stationed in the same district for over three years have already been transferred. In a meeting of the State Police Establishment Council on August 18, a decision was made to transfer police inspectors and station heads who had served in the same district for three years or more. Additionally, SPswho had been in the same district for more than three years have also been transferred. It is now expected that the IPS and IAS officers’ transfers will not be carried out by the state government.

Election Commission’s Directive on Transfers

These transfers were made based on instructions from the Election Commission of India, which had directed the completion of transfers and postings before the Jharkhand Assembly elections. This action was taken in accordance with the commission’s orders.

The state is gearing up for the elections, and the Election Commission’s visit is expected to finalize further steps to ensure smooth electoral proceedings.
