New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is set to implement the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative during its current term, according to reports. This significant electoral reform is aimed at synchronizing state and national elections to streamline the election process and reduce costs.
Despite falling short of an individual majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP, which won 240 seats in the 2024 elections, has formed a government with the support of its NDA allies. This policy is expected to be a key focus in the BJP’s agenda during this term.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has ramped up its preparations for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. On Saturday, AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met with top party leaders at his official residence in New Delhi to finalize an extensive campaign strategy for the Haryana polls. Senior leaders including Sandeep Pathak, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Atishi, and Raghav Chadha were present at the meeting.
This development comes just a day after Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy case. Following his release from Tihar Jail on Friday, AAP workers celebrated with great enthusiasm. Kejriwal’s arrest had led other party leaders, including his wife Sunita Kejriwal, to take the lead in the party’s campaign efforts, particularly in Haryana. Sunita Kejriwal became a prominent face of AAP’s rallies, highlighting key promises such as free electricity and improved education and healthcare services.
Haryana Elections and AAP’s Campaign
The Haryana Assembly election is scheduled for October 5, with results to be announced on October 8. Though AAP has yet to secure a seat in the state, the party is confident in its election strategy. Pathak, AAP’s national general secretary (organisation), said, “A detailed campaign plan has been prepared for each assembly seat. After Kejriwal’s bail, the resolve of our workers has strengthened, and we are ready to launch an extraordinary campaign.”
Kejriwal, who was named one of AAP’s star campaigners for Haryana, is expected to visit the state next week to hold public meetings and roadshows. However, details of his schedule remain undisclosed.
While AAP gears up for the election, Haryana BJP leader Anil Vij downplayed Kejriwal’s impact, stating, “Kejriwal’s presence in Haryana will not significantly affect BJP’s fortunes. Getting bail does not mean being absolved of charges, and he is still under restrictions.”
